Hi, Kell here!

Welcome to the Work Smarter Not Harder Newsletter #70. (20s to read)

Chunking your day for similar tasks will save you time.

If you have a number of phone calls to make, or invoices to pay….any routine type of activity….you will be more efficient if you chunk them.

Chunking your day means that you designate certain blocks of your time to certain types of tasks.

For example you may decide to chunk your day on phone calls and do 10 phone calls between 2-3pm. Alternatively you may decide to chunk you email, invoice payments, and other routine task to boost your efficiency.

There are at least two benefits to chunking.

  1. You become more efficient because you don’t switch between different tasks
  2. You are less likely to procrastinate as you have given yourself a clear deadline to finish the set tasks.
The easiest way to do this is to:
  1. Write all the tasks that you need to do on your printable master to do list and group similar tasks together.
  2. In your weekly planner tool simply schedule your time to do the similar tasks. For example you may make the 10 phone calls between 10-11am and pay all the invoices between 2-3pm.
